UK music funding deadlines for independent artists
By the HyperTribe team. Reviewed by Kimberly, founder. Updated .
There is more money for independent artists in the UK than most artists apply for. The problem isn't the money; it's that every list goes stale and nobody says who's actually eligible. This page is the one we keep for our own artists, with the next deadline, the amount, and the catch for each fund. If a date here is wrong, the funder's page wins, so open the link before you start.
Three rules we give every artist. Apply before you feel ready; the form is the plan. Never wait on an answer to keep working. And read the "who it's for" line first, because an hour on the wrong fund is an hour off your release.
Closing between now and the new year
| Deadline | Fund | Amount | Who it's for | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fri 6 Nov 2026, 6pm | LIMF Academy RISE Programme 2026-27 | £1,500 towards your music career (three awards), plus one-to-one mentoring and a live show to play | Music creators aged 16 to 25 from the Liverpool City Region: artists, producer-artists or bands | Liverpool City Region only, and three places. Apply on the programme's online form |
| Fri 20 Nov 2026, 5pm | Fast Track Live, round 2 (Help Musicians) | £500 to £1,000 plus a two-hour career clinic | Early-career musicians living in the UK who run some part of their own career: self-releasing, self-managing, producing | The gig has to be in the next six months and at least eight weeks after you apply; you'll need evidence of a confirmed live date before the money is paid. You can apply to only one Fast Track programme, so pick the one that fits |
| Fri 27 Nov 2026, 6pm | International Showcase Fund, SXSW 2027 round 2 (PRS Foundation) | Not stated on the deadlines page | UK artists invited to showcase at SXSW 2027 | You need the invitation first. Round 3 closes 6 Jan 2027 |
| Thu 10 Dec 2026, 6pm | Early Career Promoter Fund (PRS Foundation), round 19 | Not stated on the deadlines page | Promoters, not artists. Here because artists who put on their own nights ask | Round 20 closes 4 Feb 2027 |
| Fri 18 Dec 2026 | WOMAD 2027 artist submissions | Festival slot, not cash | Any artist: a short email with links and a bio | Festival is 22 to 25 July 2027 at Neston Park, Wiltshire. Only successful applicants are contacted |
| Thu 31 Dec 2026 | Kickstarter Culture Fund | A pledge of at least $1,000 into your own campaign | Artists over 18 running a music campaign on the platform, UK included | Not a closing date for applications, which are reviewed on a rolling basis: your campaign has to launch by 31 December. One fund application per project |

| Fund | Amount | Who it's for | Next window |
|---|---|---|---|
| Music Creators Growth Fund (Arts Council England) | £10,000 to £20,000, with at least 25% cash match from you | UK-based creators in new music with a sustained practice and about three years' track record: artists, bands, DJs, producers, songwriters | Round 1 closed 29 Oct 2026. Round 2: 6 Jan to 3 Feb 2027, decisions 29 Mar (as read in October; check the council's page before you start). New applicants need an approved profile on the grants system first, which takes up to ten working days, so set it up in December |
| Developing your Creative Practice (Arts Council England) | £2,000 to £12,000 | Individual creative practitioners in England, including musicians, for a period of development rather than a product | Round 24 closed 2 July 2026; round 25 not yet announced. Rounds have run roughly twice a year; decisions take about three months. You can't hold a Project Grant application at the same time |
| PPL Momentum Music Fund, and the Momentum Accelerators for Liverpool City Region and Tees Valley (PRS Foundation) | £5,000 to £15,000 (Momentum); up to £5,000 (Accelerators) | UK artists and bands at a tipping point; Accelerators for artists with a growing fanbase in those regions. | Open Fund for Music Creators (PRS Foundation) | Not stated on the deadlines page; the fund's own page has it | Music creators at any career level, for a specific project | 2026 rounds closed 18 Mar and 7 Sep. Expect two in 2027 |
| The Hitmaker Fund (PRS Foundation) | Not stated on the deadlines page | Songwriters and producers at the next-steps stage | 2026 rounds closed 3 Mar and 28 Sep |

| Creative Scotland, Arts Council of Wales, Arts Council of Northern Ireland open funds | Varies | Artists resident in each nation | Rolling or round-based; check each council's page |
How to apply so it isn't wasted
- Match the stage first. The Momentum fund says in its own words it's not for artists just starting out. The Growth Fund wants three years of track record. If you're under 1,000 monthly listeners with your first releases out, your funds are NextGen, Fast Track Live, the Open Fund and DYCP. Apply there and come back to the bigger ones with a track record.
- Register on the system before the window opens. The Arts Council's profile validation takes up to ten working days and they won't rush it for a deadline.
- Write the plan you already have. A fund application is your 90-day plan with a budget attached. If you've done the release countdown, half the form is written.
- Budget real numbers. Studio day rates, mastering, a PR campaign, travel. Rounded, sourced, no "misc".
- Ask for the amount the plan needs, not the maximum. Assessors read for fit.
- Keep going while you wait. Decisions take two to three months. The release doesn't wait for the grant.
- If you get a no, ask for feedback and reapply. Most funders say the same artists come back and win on the second or third try.
Where this fits
This is the money stage of artist development. Funding works best as a line in a release plan, so the release checklist and the release countdown guide come first. If you're not sure which stage you're at, the pillar has the one-minute test. Our community sessions include artists who've won several of these and will tell you what the form actually wanted.

Questions artists ask
Is there music funding for disabled musicians in the UK?
Yes, and some of it changes the rules for you. The NextGen Fund takes applicants up to 30 rather than 25 if you're d/Deaf, disabled or neurodivergent. The Arts Council of Wales's Creative Steps for Individuals is for individual artists who identify as D/deaf, disabled, neurodivergent, or ethnically and culturally diverse, with expressions of interest by 1pm on Wed 10 Feb 2027. PRS Foundation offers limited access support across its funds, separate from the grant, plus other formats for the forms and a short extension if you ask at least a working day before the deadline. Tick that box in the funding checker and it applies the age extensions for you.
What grants can an independent artist in the UK apply for?
The main ones: PRS Foundation's funds, from the Open Fund and Momentum to Hitmaker, Composers', Women Make Music and the International Showcase Fund; Arts Council England's Developing your Creative Practice and the new Music Creators Growth Fund, Youth Music's NextGen Fund for under-25s, Help Musicians' creative funds, and the arts councils of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The table above has the next deadlines.
How much can I get?
From £2,000 for a development period to £20,000 for an established creator's project. Most first grants for emerging artists sit between £2,000 and £5,000.
Am I eligible if I've only released a few songs?
For the smaller funds, usually yes. The Momentum fund and the Growth Fund want a track record. Match the stage before you spend the weekend.
Do I need to be a PRS member to apply to PRS Foundation?
Check each fund's page; some require membership or a UK base and others don't. Registering your songs with your performing right society is worth doing once anything is out, and the release checklist has the choices.
How long do decisions take?
Two to three months is normal. The Arts Council's development fund says decisions by a stated date about three months after closing. Keep releasing while you wait.
Can I apply to more than one fund at once?
Usually, unless the funder says otherwise. Arts Council England doesn't allow a development grant and a project grant application at the same time.
Where do these dates come from?
From each funder's own page, saved nightly and checked by us every week. If you spot one that's wrong, the funder's page wins; tell us and we'll fix it the same day.
